Craniosacral Therapy

$100/session; included in basic session

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a holistic, hands-on therapeutic technique that focuses on the craniosacral system of horses. This system includes the bones, tissues, and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. During a CST session, a light touch is used to detect any restrictions or imbalances in the craniosacral system. By gently manipulating the bones and tissues, the practitioner aims to release any blockages or restrictions and restore balance to the system. CST is often used to help alleviate pain, improve mobility, and reduce stress and tension in horses. It may be particularly beneficial for horses that have suffered from injuries, trauma, or other physical or emotional stresses. Its effects are almost immediately noticeable, and can completely clear up issues within a few sessions. Overall, Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle and non-invasive form of therapy that can help to promote overall health and well-being in horses. It is especially recommended for horses that may resist the more invasive pressure of massage due to mental or emotional trauma or physical pain.

Therapeutic Massage

$100/session; included in basic session

Equine therapeutic massage encompasses several techniques that were first developed for human massage and have since been adapted for use on horses. These techniques can include effleurage (gliding strokes), petrissage (kneading or compression), friction (circular or linear pressure), and tapotement (rhythmic tapping or percussion). Equine therapeutic massage has been shown to increase range of motion and stride length, which can improve overall performance and reduce the risk of injury. It can also help reduce pain and discomfort in horses, particularly those with musculoskeletal issues or chronic conditions such as arthritis. Additionally, therapeutic massage has been shown to reduce physiologic stress responses in horses, which can have a positive impact on their overall health and well-being. Many horses seem to enjoy the sensation of massage and may become more relaxed and calmer as a result. Finally, massage can help improve exercise recovery by increasing blood flow to muscles and promoting the removal of waste products such as lactic acid.

Animal Reiki

$50 per session; available remotely

Available for any type of animal

Reiki is a Japanese spiritual healing art that involves the use of universal life energy to promote physical, mental, and emotional healing in animals. It is a subtle and effective form of energy work. The modality of Reiki can help ease tension and stress in animals and may be particularly beneficial for animals that are recovering from illness or injury. The sessions themselves are usually pleasant and relaxing and may involve the practitioner placing their hands on or near the animal's body to channel the energy. It is important to note that Reiki is not a cure for disease or illness and should not be used as a replacement for traditional veterinary care. Rather, it can be used as a complementary therapy to help assist the body in facilitating healing and promote overall wellness. Overall, Reiki can be a gentle and non-invasive way to support the health and well-being of animals and may be particularly helpful for animals that are experiencing physical, mental, or emotional stress.

 Kinesiology Taping

$20-$40 dependent on size of area taped

Equine kinesiology taping is a physiotherapy treatment that involves applying specialized tape to the horse's body in specific patterns to support and facilitate movement. Kinesiology tape is elastic and adhesive, which allows it to be stretched and applied to various areas of the body. Kinesiology taping can help speed up recovery and improve endurance in horses, as it provides support and helps to improve proprioception (the sense of where the body is in space). It can also help alleviate discomfort from acute and chronic injuries, as well as provide support during movement. Additionally, kinesiology taping has been shown to improve circulation and lymphatic flow, which can reduce pain, inflammation, and tension in the body. It can also help to relax and assist muscles, as well as release fascia (connective tissue), which can improve joint function and promote faster and more complete healing. Overall, kinesiology taping can be a useful tool in improving movement and positioning in horses and can be particularly helpful for horses recovering from injuries or those that engage in athletic activities.

Cold Laser Therapy

$1 per minute; sessions typically 15-30 minutes total; several sessions necessary

Only available within San Benito County

Cold laser therapy for animals is a non-invasive technique that employs low-level laser light to stimulate healing and alleviate pain in specific areas of the body. Unlike surgical procedures or high-powered lasers, this therapy uses low-intensity light to penetrate the skin and target underlying tissues directly. During a session, a specialized device emits a specific wavelength of light, absorbed by cells in the targeted tissues, triggering biochemical reactions. This promotes cellular repair, reduces inflammation, and increases blood flow. One major benefit is its non-invasiveness, making it painless and comfortable for animals, with no downtime. Cold laser therapy treats various conditions such as tendon injuries, osteoarthritis, and wounds. It can complement other treatments like shockwave therapy and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy to enhance outcomes. Overall, cold laser therapy is a safe, effective, and versatile option for promoting healing and relieving pain in animals, contributing to their optimal health and performance.
